So Innocent

Mari, Dave, and I drove to the Newark International airport with no traffic at all. The bridges were huge, but we drove in the middle so that helped.

Thanks to Dave's Premier Access membership we breezed through each check point.  In my old life I would have wondered when the other shoe was going to fall. ...

Actually enjoyed the crowd of people who would have been our traveling companions. Adorable curly haired children with their beautiful parents, Hebrew spoken all around us, Askenazi men in their side locks, beards, and distinctive and hats. Other men in their yamekas and tassles. The ambience was warm, full of joyful life, full of Shalom.

We had to go through special security to get into the waiting area. Airlines staff hastily set up cones, barriers, and tables, then we went in, one by one, all our bags opened and thoroughly examined, and each of us wander (children and behbehs too).

Then we waited. And waited. Every so often we'd get an apologetic announcement telling of new delays. Despite the late hour, these young families remained calm and in good spirits. Finally, the airlines admitted we were canned.

Thankfully, Dave got right on the phone and rebooked us a circuitous route to Tel Aviv for a Friday arrival, early enough to hopefully make the train to Akko.

I got on the phone and found us the last bed in a five mile radius, at a hotel where I have a points membership. United Airlines gave us vouchers for a cab, three meals, and some toiletries.  That was decent of them!

Slept a few hours, shower, hot breakfast, coffee, and the good news our reservation in Tel Aviv could be moved at no charge, and we are thank in God for taking such good care of us.

The plane that got cancelled was good and broken. It is better we were delayed (or, in, other words, better late than dead).

And, I think most of our lost day can be rescued. God willing, we actually get to Tel Aviv!
